About Us

The Education Support Unit created at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital under the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 1986 has been subsequently developed into the Medical Education Department (MED). Its mission is to provide need-based quality education in the academic programmes of the Institute of Medicine. MED has been established to facilitate a rational approach to education in health sciences based on the principles of educational psychology and research outcomes in health professions education and to maintain the standard of academic programmes at par with other universities recognized internationally. Envisioning the goal of developing into a "National Centre for Health Professions Education and Development" (NCHPED) in Nepal, MED has diversified its activities in different education related areas and is increasingly playing an important role to help raise the standards of health care services by improving and ensuring the quality of human resources for heath (HRH) at the national level.
