About Us
Institute of Medicine has been committed for innovations in medical education since its inception. In 1986, it realized the need of "Medical Education Support Unit" in order to ensure the quality education within IOM. Soon it was developed into a full fledged department. It was guided with a mission to provide need-based quality education in the academic programmes of the Institute of Medicine.
During the last 15-16 years an unprecedented growth in number of institutions involved in development of HRH in country has resulted in a growing population of trainers in different fields of health professions education across the country. It was strongly felt that a national level body responsible for quality assurance in medical education in the context where emphasis has been given to innovations in health professions education through Re-orientation of Medical Education (ROME) strategy should be formed, through which the development of need-based HRH for the country as well as cooperation among health human resource developing institutions could be developed.
National Centre for Health Professions Education (NCHPE) has been established in 2009 to facilitate a rational approach to education in health sciences based on the principles of educational psychology and research outcomes in health professions education and to maintain the standard of academic programmes at par with other universities recognized internationally. It has diversified its activities in different education related areas and is increasingly playing an important role to help raise the standards of health care services by improving and ensuring the quality of human resources for heath (HRH) at the national level.
